Xerox says inkjet printed plastic transistors close

Cheap displays, and RFID stuff
Friday, 16 April 2004, 14:08
XEROX SAID it has succeeded in making a semiconductive ink which will be able to print transistor channels at low temperatures and in the open air.

According to the company, Xerox scientists Beng Ong said that his team in Canada has also made materials that will print both the conductor and the dielectric components.

The firm claims that will lead to cheap flat panel and flexible displays and also allow the creation of highly inexpensive RFID chips.

Ong was responsible for the polythiophene semiconductor previously developed by Xerox.

This latest breakthrough means that inkjet printers can create organic transistor channels in normal temperatures for the first time.

Dow Chemicals and Motorola are helping Xerox to turn the technology into reality. But there's no date as to when we'll see the first fruits of their collaboration. ยต
