PEGGY, IN TAIWAN, TELLS ME that Nvidia anticipates it will ship around 100,000 GeForce FX boards worldwide between now and May.

That's the period it has arranged for a third party contractor to make the boards to keep the quality high, she said.

And she whispered marchitecture names that Nvidia has hit on - the Ultra 5400 for the NV31 and the Ultra 5600 for the NV34 are the favorites round about now.

But Nvidia is facing a delicate balancing act over the next few weeks, and one for which Peggy has some sympathy.

Those horrid Canadian people at ATI, she said, are getting ready to go-go with the RV350 more or less at whim, and meanwhile Nvidia is juggling its partners around in a bid to make the launch just right.

She said that this window of opportunity is not helped by some unnamed Nvidia partners going around and saying silly things to the INQUIRER and then getting egg noodles all over their faces.

Things are hard enough without some of the partners behaving like wayward little boys, she reckoned. µ
