Davy Jones unlocks Hypedthreading locker

Wow! Benchmarks for Linux
Thu Nov 07 2002, 09:37
LINUX AFICIONADO Davy Jones has given us all a taste of things to come and demonstrated what Hypedthreading is good for.

He demonstrates just how good it is on his daily diary and gives the following benchmarks.

Without HT With HT
make -j1 bzImage 4m29.906s 4m22.699s
make -j2 bzImage 3m57.773s 3m29.357s

Hypedthreading for Xeon has been around for a while but this is the first time we've seen anything like this.

Mr Jones ran complete buils of a Linux kernel as a benchmark test, a method employed since 1996 and which favours those microprocessors which have fantastically big L2 caches.

It's Intel friendly, but since AMD intro'd the Palomino, those days are probably past.

Here's Dave Jones Diary. ยต
