Boss fires non-smokers

Will hire only smokers now
Sat Jan 12 2008, 01:02

FOR SMOKERS, it's a moment to savour. A small IT company in Germany fired three non-smokers after they requested, then demanded a smoke-free workplace.

Thomas J., the owner of a 10-person computer company in Buesum, told the Hamburger Morgenpost that he dismissed the employees after they became obstreperous about their demands and "threatened to disturb the peace."

Germany banned smoking in bars, pubs and restaurants effective January 1st, but still allows smoking in small offices and other places of employment.

Thomas said he's only going to hire smokers from now on and it's time for revenge. µ

@Yuck, blasted smokers.

here in manitoba you just call workplace health and safety and not only do they hit the offender with a fine but they also hit the company with one too.

Germans love to smoke

That’s why in Australia John Howard lost the election .. No body wants workplace reform laws like America or Germany where you can get fired for requesting a smoke free workplace.

But its not news we all know German's like to smoke, drink, and don’t get me started on the prostitutes. :) Oh and They also make Power hungry videogames ie: Crysis.

It's a HOax

Yowza .. this one is still around, although this Thomas J. guy as already issued a retraction. It was was a hoax to see if the tabloids (the Hamburger Morgenpost qualifies as a cheap rag) would publish anything sounding outrageous enough... which they obviously do.
In truth he doesn't employ a single worker, let alone ever fired one.

And also: there are unions in Germany for this kind of thing. they would have had a field day.

Ha!

It was all made up:

There is an article posted from the "Dithmarscher Landeszeitung" (01/09/08).

It's in German but Babelfish should do.

Actually the so-called boss has neither a business nor employees. It's all been a joke.

Yuck, blasted smokers.

Here in Alberta Canada they just implemented a province wide ban on smoking in public places like bars, nightclubs, restaurants, etc. It includes company vehicles where 2 or more people are traveling at the same time.

It's a great bylaw except the cops won't enforce it, so many people just ignore it. Just like the guy I have to work with every day. Smoking in the truck.

Blast!!!

Illegal

What that guy did is illegal - both denying the workers a smoke free workplace and firing them for their insisting on their legal rights. I hope he gets his butt kicked from Buesum to Munich (which is quite a distance) for it.

I smoke

and feel that his actions may be wrong. Wrong in the same way I would feel if they fired people for smoking. I suppose the difference here is that smokers keep quiet and hide in dark corners while non smokers have a chip on their shoulders. If that chip interferes with the business of the day then do what you must.

Wow

I can't say i was expecting that kind of thing to happen.

Guess I've gotten so used to the Norwegian rules on this kind of thing.
I still think that boss is an asshole though.

Frickin' hillarious...

It's been over a year since I quit smoking but anti smoking nazis really piss me off...wouldn't it be fun if more people had guts like this...?

What's next...? Interfering with baby seal clubbing...?

Well at least someone realised that smokers are human beings too.

if you're smoking in here, you better be on fire

it's amazing how far smokers will go just to defend their rights to oppress and poison non smokers.
