LG ELECTRONICS has today launched its latest gizmo, a Blu-ray drive and writer.

The model, dubbed the catchy GBW H10N, can write to DVDs at up to 12X speed, but perhaps more impressively, can write Blu-ray discs at a speed of 4X. Blu-ray devotees who have swallowed all the hype to date will be excited that the new LG player boasts the fastest Blu-ray write speed with its 4X, according to LG.

It's backwards compatible with all three of the current DVD formats, too, allowing users to read or write on leftover blank DVDs to their hearts content.

LG's latest comes packing a 4MB buffer memory for Blu-ray discs and 2mb for CDs with its run prevention technology, which LG says prevents errors.

Suan Choi of LG Electronics seems glad to have the Blu-ray player on the market: "Blu-ray provides a glimpse into the future of data storage technology."

The drive is set to retail at about £499 and should be available this December, though a stockist list is not available at this time. µ
