Apple's touch screen publicity was a "typo"

Better than it being a security leak
Friday, 3 November 2006, 07:07
THE BOGS WEREe agog this week after Apple seemed to accidentally announce that it was releasing an iPod with a touch screen.

Apple, which is legendary for its product secrecy, matched by its over the top announcement to its own herd of tame journalists, seemed to have announced a touch screen Ipod discreetly.

The "announcement" came in the form of a sentence in a developer support document which can be seen here.

However people from the Apple "press office" have rushed out of their ivory tower to deny that there will be a touch screen iPod. The official line is that the whole thing was a typo and instead of 'touch screen' the sentence should have said 'touch wheel'.

While typos are always pissible, Gizmodo points out that Apple higher ups have been talking off the record about a touch screen iPod for ages. As we pointed out here, Apple already has some patents out there for this technology.

It seems that like most autocratic, secretive organisations, Apple would rather be seen as a right tit than breaking its unfathomable code of secrecy. ยต
