Report: 150,000 jobs to go at Big Blue

CRINGELY RECKONS the 1,300 jobs that went at IBM and which we wrote about earlier this week are just the tip of a very big iceberg indeed.

In his latest column, he says that this is part of a giant layoff dubbed LEAN which could end up seeing a massive 150,000 jobs go.

He seems well informed and explains that if people get laid off in the USA, they may be re-employed as consultants but at 75 per cent of their previous salary. That will also remove the overheads that staff always entail.

Not that Big Glue can necessarily outsource exactly the same jobs to India and to China because the jobs aren't necessarily the same. Cringely reckons that it's a bit of a cock up and IBM might well pull the plug on its big pension scheme, too.

Much more on this, here. µ
