It had some of the best looking PCs I had seen in a long time, and offered specs no one else did. The firm was launching the day after I first talked to them, and was having some startup problems, but nothing out of line with other companies I had seen.
Soon after I wrote the article, a web page popped up declaring it non-existent, a scam, and a whole bunch of other things. I still get a few letters a week asking me if I know it is a mere front, a scam, and a few other less than savoury names. My reply to each one was simple, it's new, and has teething problems. Nothing it has said or done leads me to believe that it's anything other than what it purports to be, a new computer company. The proof would be if it did or did not deliver on its promises.
It took a little longer than I expected, but then again, if you have ever launched a product, you know how hard it is. Launching a company at the same time is a bitch. At Comdex, I got the first proof that it is real enough for every product line -- desktop, monitor, and laptop. In the OCZ suite at Comdex, I saw this.
It was sitting next to the desktop.

Before you shout about scams, the case was off because OCZ wanted to show off the memory and other neat things it had in the box, the case was there, I saw it.
Now, this monitor has to be seen to be believed. The thing is huge. The folding table it is on is consumed by the monitor, this thing is really really big. The frame is solid metal, and while I didn't go after it with a hammer, the thing was very solid.
The last thing is the laptops, they are real also. I was carrying one around for most of Comdex, and wrote about half of my stories on it, thanks to the good people at openoffice.org who gave me a CD of OpenOffice. While I won't spoil the surprises, expect a review shortly.
Moral of the story, don't jump to conclusions, and don't believe everything you read on the net. If someone says something will arrive Monday, and it turns out not to arrive until Wednesday, it is not an international conspiracy carried out by the KGB and the Post Office to plant drugs in the water supply. A friendly phone call may net you more than a rant on a web page and angry phone calls. Deep breaths people, deep breaths. µ
