Dell rapped for not including cable in printer price

Wires crossed

THE ADVERTISING STANDARDS AUTHORITY (ASA) ticked off Dell for a misleading ad for a printer.

Dell showed an ad with a price of £70 slashed through and replaced with a price of £59.

But what Dell failed to mention was that you needed a cable costing £14 to make the printer work.

The ad, said the ASA, gave the impression that the printer could be used in conjunction with a PC without buying any further kit.

Dell was told to make sure to mention these sort of things in future advertising. Dell, in its defence, said it believed people buying printers already had the necessary cable. If they wanted one, they could always buy it separately. µ
