COMPUTER SECURITY outfit Sophos has launched a new package for dodging all of those nasty nasty viruses lurking about in internet space.

The package, creatively dubbed "Sophos Security Suite" will provide a virtual Maginot of defenses for Windows and Mac computers, as well as laptops and servers. Sophos said the software has been designed with small and technical-unsavvy organisations which may lack the knowhow to keep their systems free from computer bugs.

The firm reckons over half of 540 small business questioned on IT security did not keep their anti-virus software regularly updated. This package is for them.

Sophos' latest outing protects against all the norms - spyware, spam, intrusion, adware and so on. Also included is the Sophos Client Firewall which is, well, a firewall.

The firm confirmed the software would work with upcoming Vista, a piece of software that Sophos doesn't feel will threaten its livelihood.

Managing director of Compco Technologies Peter de Blanc has been a beta tester for the package. He says that he and his company have been "particularly impressed by its efficiency," and that it is also "very easy to use, particularly when scheduling updates or scans."

If this sounds like your cup of tea, you can find out more about the product at the Sophos website. µ
