THE VISUALLY ATTRACTIVE and reassuringly expensive Steve Jobs has released the latest versions of Apple's MacOS X Panther and Panther server.

The current versions of both are 10.3.4. The Apple spinsters say that MacOS X 10.3.4 update includes many improvements to applications and networking technology. These include improved file sharing and directory services for Mac (AFP), UNIX (NFS), PPTP and wireless networks.

alt='jobsie'OpenGL technology and updated ATI and NVIDIA graphic drivers have been beefed up along with improved disc burning and recording functionality.

iPods connected via USB 2.0 are now recognised by iTunes and iSync, which has been previously difficult and there is additional FireWire audio and USB device compatibility.

The Address Book, Mail, Safari, Stickies and QuickTime applications, have been tweaked. There are also a few standalone security updates. Job's Mob spinsters say that the Panther Server, has improved reliability and compatibility of NFS file services and network automounts. It now comes with enhanced Server Admin and Network Image Utility applications.

There are adjustments to the Open Directory scalability and replication reliability, as well as better Active Directory integration. It will now have additional support for FireWire and USB devices and improved compatibility for third party applications and devices. ยต
