RIM puts Tivo on Blackberry

Digital video to feed the habit
Thursday, 11 September 2008, 10:16

TIVO AND Research In Motion (RIM) have agreed to transform the Blackberry into a glorified remote control.

Jim Balsillie of RIM explained that Crackberry addicts will soon be able to access and program their Tivo boxes from "anywhere" at "anytime". According to Balsillie, Tivo offered the "key" to greater flexibility in accessing television content.

Tivo CEO Tom Rogers concurred with Balsillie's optimistic assessment and noted that the lazy box continued to "revolutionize" television and broadband video.

The two industry heavyweights are reportedly discussing plans to develop additional software that will further simplify mobile access to video content for chronic couch potatoes.

It should be noted that the digital video recorder maker announced a deal with search engine giant Google in March to grant access to millions of Youtube videos via Tivo. The new service allows users to search, browse and watch videos directly on their television sets with broadband-connected DVRs.µ
