Philips contemplating LCD sell off - report

Fat panels and slim margins

A REPORT in the Taipei Times claimed that giant Dutch conglomerate Philips wants to sell its interest in the LCD joint venture it has with LG.

The newspaper bases the account on a Merrill Lynch note claiming Philips approached Matsushita and giant private equity groups.

Earlier this month, Philips span off its semiconductor division. Matsushita is better known in the high street under its Panasonic brand.
