Asus A7N266 bursts forth

Nforce erupts
Wed Sep 05 2001, 19:27
A FEW DAYS AGO while I was still in Bosnia, I ran a story about an Asus A7N266 review at an Italian magazine, PC Professionale.

This rebellious magazine certainly Nraged Nvidia, since it ran a review even though it wasn't supposed to.

Even Anand Lal Shimpi is not allowed to run a review yet, since Nvidia still wants to tune up a thing or two.

Asus already has on its page the final specification of that board. It will take you years to find it -- if you can find it -- but it's actually there.

Here are a few of the specs on the site.

Key Specifications (subject to change): Supports Socket A AMD Athlon/Duron 550MHz-1.4MHz
+ nForce Platform Architecture with 200MHz/266MHz front-side-bus support Integrated GeForce2 graphics core Integrated audio processing unit (APU) with 6-channel audio
3 DIMMS and up to 1.5GB support of PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM
5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 1 ACR
Optional integrated LAN
Optional RAID
2 UltraDMA 100/66/33 Master IDE
ATX Form Factor

This seems to be the only board that doesn't use the Nvidia reference design and features a full ATX standard board with 5 PCI, ACR and AGP.

The board is scheduled for Q3 2001. ยต
