KUWAIT SI CRACKING DOWN on all those who have used the World Wide Wibble to do things that the state might not like.
According to AP, nation's prosecutor general says 'Internet offenders' will no longer be able to escape punishment in this small, oil-rich state.
Hamed al-Othman has drawn up a bill that criminalises promoting vice, incitement against the country's leadership, divulging state secrets, or insulting Islam on the Web.
Internet offenders could be sentenced to up to one year in jail and/or a fine, but face seven years in prison if their victims are minors. We are not sure how many Morris Minors are in Kuwait, but I am sure they will feel a lot safer.
Kuwait has been a bit behind the times on internet censorship and monitoring. The country, which was rescued by a coalition of the willing in the 1990s from an Iraqi invasion, has been more heavily influenced by the west than the rest of the region. µ
