Cray takes over Opteron OctigaBay

In brief: Infiniband behind the scenes
Thu Feb 26 2004, 14:14
CRAY TOOK OVER OctigaBay yesterday, and no-one has really noticed yet.

OctigaBay produces the 12K High Performance Computer which uses the AMD Opteron microprocessor.

The Opterons have their own interface to a switch network using Infiniband, but it's behind the veil and invisible.

The machines run Linux and are probably complementary to the Cray Red Storm technology. ยต
