Intel makes $1.86 billion net profit

No crowing this time round
Tue Oct 16 2007, 22:13

CHIPZILLA turned in net profits of $1.86 billion on sales of $10.09 billion.

Its gross margin rose to 52 per cent, confirming Wall Street mavens' predictions. We dunno what a maven is, but it definitely rhymes with raven.

CEO Paul Otellini put the results down to great products and better worldwide demand.

He was graceful enough not to mention the competition - AMD - which has rather spectacularly shot itself in both feet this year.

Otellini showed no smugness in the press release. After the Intel debacles of the last few years, he will not be crowing but surely delivering shareholder value, going forward.

It's hard work making chips, you know. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
