SOCKET 940 244 Opterons in AMD retail packaging have started to appear in stores in Tokyo, according to Akiba PC Hotline.

The 244 (1.8GHz) model costs ¥108,000 ($924), the 242 (1.6GHz) CPU costs ¥94,800 ($811) while the 240 (1.4GHz) processor is ¥39,800 ($340), the shopping guide reports.

That seems like an awful lot to us. This page lists them as far less.

The Japanese site has pictures of the packaging, CPU and price list, here. µ
