LCD market to grow by 50%

MARKET RESEARCH firm DisplaySearch said that despite the plunge in panel prices over the last few months, the
value of the LCD market in 2005 is expected to rise by 50%.
The problem this year, according to Ross Young, DisplaySearch' president, was a surplus in panels which caused significant price declines.
Three factor affect the supply-demand status of the industry and so pricing. Those are computer monitors, notebook PCs and flat panel TVs. Mobile phones are the main consumers of small LCDs.
Nevertheless, he said: "Large area TFT LCD revenues are expected to rise by 50% in 2004 to $36 billion and 17% in 2005 to $43 billion".
Young is expected to provide full details at the DisplayForum conference in the Netherlands towards the end of September. µ
