WQUXGA. This tongue-breaking combination of letters is simply a resolution of 3840x2400, or more than nine million of pixels (9.22 Mpixel).
Recently, we spoke with Tim Sweeney of Unreal and in our conversation, Tim also mentioned the nine million pixel resolution as one of steps towards best possible picture quality.
Now Toshiba has stepped forward in order to make his dreams a reality, with the release of the ultimate 22-inch monitor.
The screen actually 22.2 inches, or 56.4 cm - just a little above half meter. In order to be able to show a resolution this big, you can bet that a dual dual-link DVI-D connection is required. We wonder if the DisplayLink guys will push this one through USB 3.0 connection, but all general, owners of HDMI boxes will only need two of them.
The monitor will be available next year at a cost of a mere £9,000. That's 18.000 USD, 12.000 EUR - you choose which currency you prefer most . µ

Does that acronym really expand to "Wide Quad Ultra Extreme Graphics Adaptor"? That's even worse than CPUs...

As I read on other news sites comments (dailytech), LCD monitors with this resolution are already available, namely:
-IBM T220/T221 (seems discontinued)
-Viewsonic VP2290b

AND, the viewsonic seems to be at half the price.
Displayport v2 ?
when is this standard out.. can't wait for reasonable prices on these kinds of HiDefenition monitors.
IBM T221 did it first and at the same price ~ 10 years ago. Saw TigerDirect selling them a few year ago for $800.00 online and actually saw a open box T221 being sold for $400.00. This was about 2-3 years ago. I believe the The Inq actually did a review for the IBM T221?
Is this at all different from the IBM T221 that was available many years ago?:

Old news. IBM had a monitor with the same resolution and physical size almost 6.5 years ago. Interestingly the launch price was also $18,000--dropped to $8400 a mere 9 months after that.

Perhaps this will have some improvements, such as refresh rate (using 4 DVI connectors yielded under 60 Hz), but the price is absolutely absurd, given that IBM offered it at less than half the cost more than 5.5 years ago.
