Appro to release Opteron clustered blade servers

With Infiniband inside

HIGH PERFORMANCE computing firm Appro said it will show off its Opteron next generation blade servers at the Supercomputing Show in Pittsburgh, tomorrow.

It will show off the Opteron based Xtreme Blade machines which use integrated Infiniband, Appro said.

The Appro offering will allow six sub racks to house up to 12 blade servers in each. One Xtreme Blade cluster will support up to 72 blade servers in a single rack cabinet, the firm said.

Appro is also to offer a number of configurations for the kit, including DAS, NAS and SAN storage availability, together with a choice of OSes.

The firm claims its Xtreme Blades are different from the rest of the pack because server clusters generally depended on "proprietary" interconnects. But having both Infiniband and Ethernet Gigabit integrated allows for a better way to connect high density blade clusters, Appro claimed.
