Vodafone outsources development to EDS and IBM

Cost cutting
Mon Nov 06 2006, 08:42
UK MOBILE phone outfit Vodafone has outsourced its application development and maintenance services department to EDS and IBM.

According to the IT Wire, Vodafone wants to cut its £560 million application development and maintenance bill by 25 to 30 per cent within three to five years.

Vodafone's outfits in Germany, the UK, Hungary and the Netherlands will work with EDS while those in Spain, the Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Italy, will work with Biggish Blue.

It is not clear why Vodafone split the contracts in that way. Steve Pusey, chief technology claimed the deal will not only be cheaper but will mean that Vodafone will get a better service. We are sure that the UK National Health Service and Sprint would not agree with Vodafone's choice of outsourcing partners. More here. µ
