A TEAM OF SOUTH KOREAN researchers has devloped a robo-penguin which can interact with humans.

According to the Korea Times Pomi (Penguin robot for Multimodal Interaction) can see, hear, touch and emit smells as well as making faces.

Built by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) it is destined for commercial use.

The software which mimics human expressions of emotion, will be available on the market by the end of next month.

Pomi can move its lips, eyebrows and even pupils. It also has two kinds of fragrances that match its emotions.

The robot is programmed to respond to users through voice recognition technology and various sensors allow it to recognise and locate humans. ยต
