INTEL WILL LAUNCH a new web Site for designers of embedded applications in 2009.

It is hoped that the portal, which will include tools to help engineers decide which chips are best suited for a particular application, will convince more companies to use Intel processors.

"Hopefully, it's not just a repository for documents," Doug Davis, general manager and vice president of Intel's Embedded and Communications Group, told PC World in an interview at the Intel Developer Forum in Taipei. "We're doing some things that will help customers make the right product selection."

Embedded designs, which include non-PC uses like digital advertising screens, point of sale systems and industrial robotics, are expected to grow massively in coming years and may even surpass the current use of chips in traditional PCs.

And Intel is hoping that the the new site aimed at developers will help it gain a foothold in industries where traditional marketing has little or no effect. µ

So they'll be recommending their customers switch to ARM?
