Microsoft's Ballmer faces the Vista blues

THE TOP MAN at Microsoft told hacks at the NY Times that his firm tried to re-engineer Vista in a "big bang" approach but failed, leaving its next generation OS late.

Unlike other operating systems Windows manages the hardware and while it's not 100 per cent monolithic, it's almost 100 per cent monolithic. (See Microsoft Vista licence restrictions hit hardware hard.)

Ballmer used to live in Brussels for three years when he was a boy. He loves Brussels. Bill Gates has to be given between three or five or 10 per cent of the credit for writing Office 2007. But the buck stops with Ballmer. Consumers love Microsoft.

Steve Ballmer also said that new things, like having a baby, can't happen before their due date.

Ballmer didn't say this, but an elephant's gestation period is about 22 months. According to this page, the Sand Tiger Shark gestation period can be 24 months. The shortest gestation period is apparently the American opossum, whch takes about 12 days. The female meadow vole ( microtus pennsylvanicus) has a gestation period of three weeks and she produces four to five litters (patches) a year. µ
