Nothing excites at CES so far

CES 007 The chaos before the show
Sat Jan 06 2007, 20:46
HAVING THOROUGHLY walked the main CES show floor, I can say without much fear of missing the mark that there is nothing really new and cool at the show.

Sad though it is, everything seems to be a little more, a little bigger, smaller, lighter, brighter and DRM infected. What it isn't is new.

The scene on the show floor was the usual chaos, boxes everywhere, forklifts and people with more tattoos than teeth. It is loads of fun, and unlike Computex, the floor is not littered with chicken bones and beer bottles.

So, what caught my eye? Well, nothing huge. Microsoft is announcing the home server DRM infection edition tomorrow to assembled yawns, Intel has more Panasonic 103-inch TVs at about 100K a pop if the whispers are true, and there are no blockbuster big TVs lying about.

Basically, so far, the show floor is a big yawner. There may be hidden lurking stuff, but right now, there is not much fanfare. This should change in about five hours when the festivities start, and raise to a suicidal pitch about 3/4 of the way through the Gates keynote. Be still my beating heart. µ

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
