BT break-in halts services

It's not good to talk
Thursday, 11 September 2008, 18:00

EERIE SILENCE CAME to many yesterday after a robbery was committed in one of BT's telephone exchanges in London.

This massive inconvenience to the company had a backlash effect – meaning many customers were brought to a standstill after being left with no telephone and internet services. I wonder who managed to dial 999?

In a statement the telco giant said: "BT apologises for any disruption caused to our customers. Our engineers are working around the clock to ensure that full service is up and running as soon as possible." – comforting words indeed.

The reason this break-in caused so much disruption to the telecoms service was that the theft was of specific technical equipment – officers from Westminster CID are investigating, but unfortunately the burglar forgot to leave a card, so as yet no arrests have been made.

It seems that BT isn't the first to be hit as thieves seem to have a sudden yearning for copper wire, which incidentally now costs around £4,000 a tonne.

Let's hope BT employees are working around the clock, as the Mayfair exchange serves 3,010 residential premises and over 4,000 non-residential premises in central London. µ

That, friends, is what is known as p*ss-poor writing.

Re: Piss Poor

Now, I know I didn't study English in university for 5 years, but I reckon I've got a pretty good handle on the Queen's English (as defined outside Liverpool and Manchester). With that said, I can't find anything in the above quote that I would call "piss-poor writing".

Perhaps the comment author would like to read through a few government-issued documents - that is, the Queen's government - and see if he can find any that do NOT contain piss-poor writing. £1 for every 10 documents!
