Speaking to hacks at Associated Press, Chris Hoofnagle of the Electronic Privacy Information Center said that Google has too much personal information in a single basket and is headed to become the largest privacy risk on the world wide wibble web.
He said he is worried about Google's potential to be a prime target for abuse by overzealous law enforcers and criminals. Hoofnagle said that either through hacking or with the assistance of rogue employees, criminals could steal data for blackmail or identity theft.
He added that it is possible that the police and other spooks could have a single stop, snooping shop, by going to Google with a warrant.
Hoofnagle said that Google's privacy protection is generally comparable and perhaps better thanVole's, Amazon and a host of other Internet giants. But none of them have Google's scope of personal information.
