Cingular tells woman her account is too expensive

Cuts her off
Thu Sep 21 2006, 08:20
MOBILE PHONE outfit Cingular seems to be conducting a Stalinistic style purge of customers it thinks are a little too expensive.

Beckie Edwards was told by the outfit that she was using too many rival phone networks when she made her calls and was too expensive to keep as a customer.

Edwards didn't know, or care, which network she happened to use, and was surprised when the outfit switched her off.

Cingular offered to let her voluntarily cancel her contract, in return she could keep my old numbers, which she can do anyway.

Edwards had no wish to cancel her contract which had about a year still to run, but they ignored her. If Edwards had done the same thing to Cingular they would have charged her an arm and a leg for breaking the contract.

Experts at the Consumer List magazine think that Cingular would get a good kicking by a court. More here. µ
