HP doesn't like Linux

Not in its DC7700
Tuesday, 23 January 2007, 10:52
A READER WHO works for a government agency in Germany says it uses Linux "here and there".

But he says the fact the few HP DC7700 Small Form Factor machines won't run Linux got him "shaking his head over HP.

"We got a to do tests with our applications. Windows 2000 and XP run fine. But HP doesn't support Linux on those machines. Can you believe that?" he writes.

"Linux is a non supported platform for the DC7700 Series. How can you screw up that? I tried SuSE Linux Enterprise 9, Knoppix and RHEL 8. Couldn't get it past the boot screen."

As it says on a HP.com based forum, here: "If you are looking to buy those nice dc7700 desktops be advised that they don't boot any of the well known linux distros. They don't run Redhat RHEL4, RHEL5beta2, Fedora Core 6, Fedora Core 5, Fedora Core 4, Ubuntu 6.10, ...

"HP Official phone support does not want to open a case as linux is not a supported platform." ยต
