Ex-Microsoft manager flees Oracle

CFO for only four months
Fri Nov 04 2005, 08:06
GREGORY Maffei is clearing his desk at the storage giant Oracle after just four months in the job of co-president and chief financial officer.

In a statement, Maffei said that his resignation was not a reflection on the company, its executives or employees.

He will remain at the company until November 15 to help with a smooth transition. Maffei was a big name at Vole where he helped engineer the company's boom time in the late 1990s.

When he was hired by Oracle in late June, he was tipped to be in the eventual three-way battle to succeed Larry Ellison, the company's chief executive and co-founder, between Maffei, and co-presidents Safra Catz and Charles Phillips.

According to the Wall Street Journal, personality clashes may have played a part in Maffei's decision. Although it is possible that he woke up one morning and realised he was working for a storage company and wanted to stay in bed.
