RUMOURS ARE A-FLUTTER of Microsoft releasing its Service Pack 1 RC to testers on the first of December, reports this ZDnet bog.
The vole is said to be testing the SP1 RC build internally at present, build number 17051. After the RC build is released, first to testers then to the general public, Microsoft is hoping to let loose the final SP1 code in Q1, 2008.
A preview build had been released earlier this month to 15,000 candidates. The new release details are a tad blurry though, with it being unclear whether the RC Vista SP1 will be made available to Microsoft Developer Network testers.
It seems this may be the case, with a note accidentally posted on the MSDN site earlier this month about a SP1 code download. ยต
Every person who's adopted Vista gets a free update to improve stability and performance. Thats a GOOD thing.

This site is so anti-microsoft its sad.
Is this just in time for xmas for the sale of pc's?

Adopting Fista ? I wish I would of never adopted anything and stayed with XP. I'm still waiting for the WOW experience...
Fista is stable all right, even viruses don't like it.. improve performance ? I wish....
No need to bash Microsoft, they can do it by themselves.
"This site is so anti-microsoft it's sad."

Noo this site is anti-shit products! Nothing to do with Microsoft.

I haven't heard of one single computer engineer or IT professional openly admitting that they run Vista (I mean real professionals not wannabe pro kiddies on the internet) ... why ?
Because it sucks!

I can get the aeoro theme for my xp and it runs with 30% less resources so why bother with a overpriced malware product ?

Vista code sucks.... you can get all the gadgets for free and coded properly without microsofts spy/malware in it.

All you people whining about theinquirer telling you the truth
you got ripped off ! You paid 300 dollars for something worthless...get over it!
its anti-microsoft for a reason- they're shite.i upgraded from xp to vista and i seriously regret it. slow computer, crashes, and instability is frequent. + There's just a general tendancy to be rubbish. XP was far better. the only way in which vista improves upon XP is that it looks much nicer. but then, looks count for fuckall.
"This site is so anti-microsoft its sad."

And yet... here you are. I don't think L'Inq or those who dwell within are any more "anti-" than most, they simply have the freedom to express their (constant) exhasperation using something resembling "wit" (though pure sarcastication does get stale after awhile). Really, the latest wave of Mac v. PC commercials that savage Vista are far more indelicate than (most) anything you'll find 'round here. And didn't MS say something about there not nor never would be a service pack? I'm sure I remember that. What are all these bats doing in here?
Well, even Charlie comes up with Windows MEII for Vista, but they do provide some critical comments and review, not just some usual fanbois type,

Vista is here to stay as Direct X 10.1

I said, this site is more like anti AAPL :P lolz
They're also anti apple, linux, intel, amd, nvidia, hp, dell, earth and occasionally zoltar.

Quoite evenhanded derision, really...
I wish they could at least comment on whether SP1 will finally support IEEE 1394b (Firewire 800) as promised during Vista launch.
Chem: Perhaps because SP1 is strongly rumoured to be little more than existing patches/updates rolled up together with a couple of other equally irrelevant bits such as DirectX 10.1. As far as it currently looks, a Vista SP1 machine won't be any faster or more reliable than a none SP1 machine with all the current updates applied.

Hence the lack of real enthusiasm for SP1 currently.
Chem, I don't see an ounce of negativity in this article.

Boomboom, Xmas is toward the end of December. Q1 08 is after that, and the 1st December is before that. Does that help answer your question?
Vista ranks down there with Windows Millenium - I gave up trying to install either of them.

Yep ... sometimes it is just wise to concede defeat and accept the fact that it is a dog !!

Keep your service pack ... keep my license fee too ... just leave me with XP working and don't do any more sneaky updates or I'm going to get a penguin instead !!

P.S. Please stick DX10 on the next service pack for XP ... thankx !!
How is this article anti MS? At the end of the day VIsta is a crappy bloated OS that requires way more horse power to do what XP does yet runs slower. The objective when creating a new OS should be to improve on performance while adding features; not bloat the hell out of it so it has no performance advantages but negates performance.

Its one thing to call someone anti MS if they are slagging the company off when the actual software is brilliant, selling by the shed load and is being adopted by companies from the offset; however none of the previous has happened or is true.
Id never go back to XP after having Vista, so much better
Everyone goes on about who is and isn't using Vista. What i'd like to know is are Microsoft using it in their offices yet? Are their staff using it on a day to day basis? If it has all these great features that they think so highly of why would they not?
Most people have a short memory regarding software and all that come with it. Lets go back into the past with Windows 95 large number of users stated why do we need windows? DOS is just fine, few years later with Windows 98 again well this software runs like crap why did i upgrade from 95, 2000, XP and now Vista. The story repeats itself over and over again. It takes years for an OS to be adopted and all the issues worked out and yes Vista has few issues. In few years when the new OS will show up people will complain how bad the OS is and how they should have stayed with Vista. Vista has far less issues then XP had. Dose anyone remember the bug where a code on the website could erase your hard drive in a flash if you run the website on a pre SP1 XP. How about the Blaster worm anyone. Im an IT pro I work with enterprise level clients and the truth is that they are adopting and testing Vista as well and thats a good thing. I am running vista myself without any major issues but I know what to expect. Now if you are an IT pro you know what I mean there is no perfect software it matures and grows over time. LOL Be thankfull because of it we have a great hobby that turned into profession and pays our bills.
I honestly know very little about Vista other than the fact it's been a total pain since I bought a new computer with it after it came out (bad timing). I've kept track of how many times it's done something to "annoy" me (I.E. freezing/crashing, other programs crashing, shutting down randomly, completely locking up once a day, etc). At one point recently, in 30 minutes it did 27 things to "annoy" me or screw with what I'm doing. Basically, I missed XP and considered even going Mac. But I just download the SP1 RC or whatever it's called. I've been using it for 6 hours so far and nothing to "annoy" me has happened yet, nothing's frozen or crashed and it seems to run fast (although I'm sure it's still hogging everything). Anyway, point is, I've noticed an improvement and it was HORRIBLE before and now it seems quite tolerable... Should be better than that I'd think for the money but oh well.
