Bill Gates says pen is mightier than the Word

Swansong amour, da da da da da
Monday, 7 January 2008, 09:25

VOLE SUPREMO Bill Gates sang his swansong at the CES show in Las Vegas last night, but the message he conveyed was one we’ve heard many times before.

This year, Sir Bill retires to spend more time on his philanthropic activities.

But, he told the BBC that in the next five years the “natural user interface” would rule supreme.

This NUI is really an Oldie, however. Because Gates said that “we’re adding the pen, we’re adding speech”.

Gates has been telling us that Microsoft will be adding the pen and adding speech for nearly 20 years now.

He told the Beeb he was very proud of Vista. µ

remove that space after "pen" and presto... the true meaning emerges.

Great. And what about those of us who touch type because holding a pen for any length of time gave us cramp, or who do a lot of programming where natural language input would be anything but useful?

Even if it worked perfectly, and why should it when nobody else has managed it in decades of trying, there's still plenty of good reasons why a good old keyboard is better.

Still on the apple-inspired vista road, that is make everything geared to complete idiots having the brain-age of 4y olds.

Here's my prediction: next they will add technology that will allow people to suckle on computers to communicate with them.
Mark my words.
