Intel makes BIOS changes on some 915 boards

To assist introduction of the iAMD64

SOURCES SAID Intel has alerted manufacturers of motherboards to a change in BIOS for i915 boards.

The changes have the effect of enabling 64-32 support for some Prescott processors.

Not all Prescotts are the same. Some have EM64Tswitched on iin the factory, while others are lame ducks that only quack in the IA-32 way.

One day all Intel Prescott processors will be 64-32, but the BIOS changes will help the chip firm release the EM64T features in a phased manner.

How do you tell if a Prescott is a 64-32 beastie or a 32-bit beastie? You will have to read an incredibly long techie document of 90 plus pages to figure that one out. This document does not yet appear to be generally available on the Intel web site. µ
