Flickr censored by Chinese

Tiananmen massacre undone
Wednesday, 13 June 2007, 12:38
SNAP SHARING SITE Flickr.com has been blocked by the mainland Chinese government after someone posted pictures from the the Tiananmen massacre.

Flickr, which is owned by Yahoo, has confirmed that the site has been down in mainland China since the snaps were published.

Beijing has a bit of a problem with the Tiananmen massacre. It would prefer that people would forget that it turned the troops on thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators. It has white washed the event from history and many younger Chinese do not know it happened.

It censors news and other internet mediums which happen to mention it. Yahoo says that the Chinese have not told them that the site has been censored. Normally Yahoo would have little problem bending over backwards to make the Chinese happy. It has turned over details of cyber decedents to the government in the past.
