PEDDLER of phones, Deutsche Telekom claims that it has the god given right to have the sole use of the colour magenta.
While this will be news to many who see it as part of the spectrum and the sister of Rocky Horror Picture Shows Riff-Raff, apparently the legal teams at DT are taking it all seriously.
According to Engadget, DT was miffed that the magazine used magenta on its site.
Apparently the phone company thought that the use of magenta would lead its customers to suddenly try and buy its products from the magazine, instead of a proper DT supplier.
When Engadget rang DT to ask what the hell was it playing at, David Beigie, vice president of corporate communications for T-Mobile US, said his company Deutsche Telekom looks at usage that could lead to confusion in the marketplace.
The letter was simply meant to 'open a dialogue' and was not a legal threat as such. Engadget has posted the letter to let is readers make up their own mind. It has also listed the difference between itself and the telcom company just in case its readers had difficulty spotting the difference. µ
