ATI has daft codenames for RV6x0 chips

Bum, shaka, laka
Tuesday, 26 September 2006, 12:35
IF YOU think this is some kind of a joke, well, it isn't. ATI made up silly codenames for the three upcoming chips expected in 2007. They are all DirectX 10 parts probably with unified Shaders as well but, since they have a V in the codename they won't be the high-end chips.

The first one is codenamed RV610 or, as the engineers codenamed it, Bum. The second one is RV630, or engineering codename Shaka, and the last one RV660 is codenamed Laka.

When you put these three codenames together you get Bum Shaka Laka, which is, of course, richly amusing. Who said that engineers don't have the sense of humour? ยต
