Top Vole mocks Google Office

Corporates will never want it

A TOP Microsoft bigwig has dismissed Google's web-based word processing and spreadsheet applications, saying they are unlikely to appeal to corporate punters.

Antoine Leblond, who is the co-leader of Vole's Office group said there was simply not enough functionality in Google's attempt to interest corporates.

According to Reuters, Antoine believes that it is not good enough to say that a product does 90 per cent of what a company wants.

He said that when it came to "mission critical things" the threshold was much higher. Leblond said that Vole was not dismissing the concept of Office based web-services, it wanted people to buy into its Office Live idea, but it needed to offer more functionality.

Leblond does not like the idea of free software either. He admits that the idea of free software was appealing, but the reality "doesn't trump the software doing what people need it to do".

To be fair, Google has never said it was designing its online office for Corporate clients. In fact most of its offering seems to be tailored for home users who do not want to fork out lots of cash for Vole's fancy functionality when all they want is a basic spreadsheet and word processor.
