Missing Sky+ box disk space found

Held hostage by Sky Anytime TV
Fri Feb 02 2007, 13:20
HAVING PREVIOUSLY revealed that around 160GB of disk space was missing on Sky + boxes, the INQ now knows why.

It's all down a new service called Sky Anytime TV. That space will be consumed overnight when Sky transmits up to ten shows from the previous day's programming schedule.

The catch is that it's Sky's editors who are going to pick the shows rather than the consumer's own choice. Worse still, the service will automatically overwrite previous shows when it downloads new material.

The are plenty of INQ readers who aren't too pleased they've effectively lost half of the Sky+'s hard disk space and they don't get to pick which shows get recorded.

It's assumed that BSkyB has timed the March launch for this service to compete head on with BT's forthcoming Vision service which provides for TV programmes to be downloaded 'on demand' via its broadband network. µ
