THREE SCIENCE PARKS on the tiny island of Taiwan turned over a staggering $37 billion for the first eight months of this year, according to a report in the Taipei Times.

The biggest, said the newspaper, is the Hsinchu park, not far from Old Taipei itself, which turned in 60 per cent of the gross turnover of all three.

Nearly 185,000 people, and that doesn't include foreigners, work at the three parks.

You won't be surprised to hear that the biggest of the industries was IC manufacture, while LCD related projects is the second biggest.

The science parks account for 14 per cent of Taiwan's total exports, said the paper. µ
