iPhone knock-off in the works

Apple inspiration
Tuesday, 30 January 2007, 10:28
MAKER OF COMPUTERS for OAP's, Apple may be interested to learn of Chinese company named Meizu's latest product, a music phone dubbed the M8, which looks remarkably similar to Steve's latest proffering, the phone that was 'til recently called 'iPhone'.

According to VR-Zone, this snappy little number is smaller than the Apple version, but packs a higer resolution into the slightly smaller screen space at 720x480 compared to the 320x480 on Apple's version.

Other differences include the M8's use of a ARM11 CPU and WinCE 6.0 OS compared to the Marvell processor and of course OSX packed into the iPhone. Sadly the M8 doesn't give us Wi-Fi and there's no mention of storage capacity. Pictures and other feature comparisons are listed on VR-Zone.

Given Apple's rather litigious nature, and its difficulties with courtroom battles in the East, we can see its lawyers getting migraines over this one. A bit of searching around seems to suggest that while the M8 is real it looks a lot more like the pics found here or possibly the ones seen here, but Meizu has a reputation for designs 'inspired' by Apple, so you never know. µ
