Server shipments up, revenues up

IBM top on revenues, HP on ships

MARKET RESEARCH firm Gartner released figures which it said showed server shipments in the third quarter of this year were up by 8.7 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.

Revenues worldwide hit $13.4 billion with shipments over 2.2 million units.

X86 market volumes grew, with RISC-Itanic-UNIX revenues growing at eight per cent.

IBM tops the vendor list on revenues, with System P and System X growing share. System Z and System I shipments showed declines.

HP, in second place, was followed by Dell, Sun, Fujitsu and the others. HP grew its share by 20.2 per cent, quarter on quarter, year on year, and leads in shipments, rather than revenues.

Sales of blades continued to grow by 13.7 per cent, with HP owning this market with a share of 91 per cent. µ
