EMC moves into protection

Shoppers, prisoners, it's all the same
Friday, 28 March 2008, 09:52

STORAGE BEHEMOTH EMC is moving into surveillance. The outfit says video surveillance is growing and it wants to get in on the action along with BT, Unisys and others.

And it sees a big market for it. Its statement says: "Customers in
retail, financial services, gaming, transportation, seaports/airports,
correctional facilities, government, education, critical infrastructure,
and border control use EMC's best-practices solutions for real-time access to critical information, enabling them to proactively protect critical assets."

So, there you have it, shoppers and prisoners should be treated the same as they present the same kind of threat and infinitives should be boldly split.

The company describes its services thus: "Assessment for Physical Security: Identify customers' technology, business and physical security requirements, analyse the data, identify challenges and obstacles, and present recommendations. EMC and its partners also assess and identify findings regarding items such as cameras, alarms, video archiving, encoders, video software and network services.

"Design for Physical Security: Allows EMC and its partners to gather the information collected in the assessment service and provide a complete design of the customer's physical security environment to include any connectivity to other systems such as access control devices, alarms, cameras and sensors.

"Implementation for Physical Security: EMC and its partners will install the solution, including cameras and other security devices."

It's like getting a pitch from Tony Soprano.

Safe as last. ยต
