RV770 XT yielding better than expected
A FEW MURMURINGS out of China suggest that DAAMIT has had better-than-expected yields and performance out of its latest RV770 chips, which means that the XT variation - using GDDR5 memory - should be en route to hardware enthusiasts sooner than expected.
RV770 Pro should be hitting the shelves in June at the latest, and it was previously thought that the XT variation could be as much as two months behind it. However, the fact the ramp-up has exceeded AMD's expectations means that the XT should now follow no later than a month after the Pro in mass availability, and the two cards will almost certainly ship simultaneously to press for review.
Shipping both together means journalists can pull a double-header and means that the new series launch can get the amount of media coverage AMD is no doubt hoping for, given the apparent probability of a match-up against the 9900 GTX.
At least, that's what we're assuming this says. µ

I noticed PC2 9600 few days ago, theINQ had bunch of memory advancements of DDR2 class 18 months ago, except there was nothing to plug them into.Surprising many readers that we'd been Stuck at 800 Mhz/s for really Long Time.

9600=1.2 Ghz/sec, Faster in Tests than DDR3 2.0Ghz/sec. Yet theres NO Mainboards for ethier? If there where they'd be 50% faster than Standard.
I am sure GDDR5 is better, yet Memory seems to sit in clump really long time, then suddenly changes en masse'. It is good to transistion in More Complex Memory SOONER drashek
I've fallen off the tracks by now. Is RV770 just a rehashed RV670 with smaller process thus higher clocks, or is it a whole new architecture?

Or is it safe to assume, that we won't be seeing any real new GPU arcihecture untill the first DX11 cards are rolled out?

Is RV770 now, what was rumored to be R700 with dynamically scalable multi-core chippery? Is RV770 now enroute to yield as a single chip >800SP monster @55nm, or perhaps even smaller... =D what's the deal guys?

I can't wait to get rid of my 8800 GTS 640MB(G80) and this time I'll opt for the single fastest (i emphasize single) card available on the market. I really hope DAAMIT will score big with this one.

it's been commented amongst AIBs this last week that all DAAMIT is waiting for really is GDDR5. As soon as GDDR5 is soldered on they're ready to start shipping the buggers.
R770 will not be the multichip wonder R700 was purported to be, but it will be a new architecture. Kind of like the move from R500 to R600 or G60 to G70. It's not going to be something completely new like R300 or G80, but it will fix the problems with the current chip, and probably increase the processing units by 50 to 100%. So we can finally expect a single chip card that will be a significant step up from the 8800 Ultra. 3 years later.
