ULI presents own version of SLI, entry level

Hardware Roundup Masters of the ULI verse

PCMODDING Malaysia sports a new design as they present a new review of a card from Inno3D called the 7300GT DDR3 SLI. What an idea to combine DDR3 and SLI with the 7300GT. To know whether it is actually a good idea, read the review. The card features a core/mem speed of 0.5/1.4GHz, complete with support for DVI and HDTV. Clearly though there is a trouble with the images. But PCM says that the 7300GT should run faster than the 6600GT which is quite a feat.

Trustedreviews reports on the Netgear RangeMax NEXT DG834N. This is a wireless router which offers five Gigabit Ethernet ports and an Integrated ADSL modem. Dave Mitchell, the reviewer, says that Netgear inspired itself from Apple to design the NEXT. Could it be that Netgear will launch a white router pretty soon? Running in the Draft-n range, it is one of the better routers out there when used with Netgear own adapters. What about 41Mbit/sec through two brick walls and with WPA2 enabled.

Bjorn3D tests the Mushkin Redline XP2 8000 DDR2 SDRAM memory modules. Unsurprisingly, the memory modules come with a red heatsink on top. Apart from that, the XP2 8000 managed some very good scores and the reviewer is More than pleased with it. It managed to run at DDR 1120 equivalent using a 10x multiplier. The memory was tested on an Asus motherboard and with an X2 5000+. The price of the 2GB kit though will probably get some buyers looking elsewhere but as always, you get what you paid for.

Realworldtech has an article called A Historical Look at the VAX: DEC, NVAX, Alpha and the Competition [Part II] where the writer, John Mashey - a respected OS developer and computer Architect - talks at length about the evolution of the VAX till now. Since the Alpha has more than inspired the new breed of processors from AMD and Intel, it will be a worthy look for those who want to look beyond the usual mish-mash and hardware reviews around here. The language used might be a little technical but you will appreciate the substance.

Mashrimps takes a close look at the Silverstone TJ08 Mini-ITX case. It is obviously larger than most SFF cases out there but has the notable advantage that it is a barebone model. It has more space inside and a better cooling system as well - two 120mm in this case, which makes the case even cooler than the Antec Aria Enclosure. With six drive bays, and four expansion slots, it nicely sits between too large and too small cases. Note that it comes with a motherboard tray and takes normal sized ATX power supplies. Plus it is relatively cheap.

Chilehardware reviews the Epox ULI EP-9U1697GLI Express Power motherboard which they call, the Masters of the ULIverse. The article was originally in Spanish and translated by Google. You can find out for example that the chipset used is the M1697, probably one of ULI's last product if Nvidia reigns in. It comes with a number of Epox Only features like the Magic Flash, the Magic Health, Power BIOS, Ez Boot and Post Port. Note that the space between the primary and the secondary PCI Express x8/x16 slots means that this board should support SLI.
