2,100 million square inches of wafer ship

What's that in real money?

THE SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) said that 2,100 million square inches of wafer shipped worldwide during the first quarter of this year, slightly up from the the previous quarter.

That is 334.787 acres, 135.483 6 hectares, or 1,338.770750988 farthingdales, or 209.242 square city blocks in New York City. A farthingdale is one quarter of a virgate or according to some a rood.

Too many wafers were sloshing about in the quarter, or as SMG puts it: "An ongoing inventory correction throughout the supply chain impacted the market."

The trade association counts polished silicon wafers between one inch and 12 inches in diameter, including virgin wafers, epitaxial silicon wafers, and non polished wafers shipped to firms which print chips on them. µ
