750GB HDD beats Raptor in RAID0

Hardware Roundup Two against one

EXTREMETECH tests the Big Kahuna - which is a big wave - from Seagate, the new generation 750GB hard disk, the 7200.10. GamePC also has it here. It is 50% larger than the competition and while the platter size is smaller - 187.50 vs 200GB, the 7200.10 is a fierce competitor. 16MB cache, SATA2 with NCQ support and perpendicular recording technology with HAMR technology on horizon 2010. Seagate has acquired Maxtor a few months ago and this might be the birth of yet another storage giant.

The drive is silent, relatively cheap, very fast and runs a little warm. In RAID-0 mode, it beats the new Raptor easily, meaning that you can get a 1.5TB drive for $1000 with ten times the capacity and three times the price of the 150GB model. GamePC has some very nice close up pictures of the giant drive which spins at 7200rpm only but in terms of performance, is quite near to SCSI can achieve. The only problem now will be how you will back up this little drive.

Overclex reviews the EVGA-7800GS-GS-CO-SUPERCLOCKED EVGA 7800GS CO superclocked video card. Is it me or is EVGA cards popping all over the world and this time on this French website. The 7800GS has been tested a few days ago and what puts it apart from the rest is that it is an AGP model. The card is overclocked - 460MHz/1350MHz for core and memory. The price is right and although there is no bundle games, the performance of this 7800GS will prove to be the best on AGP platform.

FastlaneHW tests the Xgene Imperial 2.4G Wireless Keyboard + Trackball. One has to wonder why, with the advent and popularity of laptops, more laptop like keyboards - with a central touchpad near the bottom - have not flooded the market. The XGene Imperial comes with a trackball which is still not good enough - anyone still uses laptops with trackballs? The keyboard is compact but still weighs as much as some laptops. On the plus side, it is RF equipped and comes with a few shortcut keys.

German website Hardware-Mag.de reports on the Sony Vaio VGN-SZ1XP laptop which is a Core Duo Model with a 13.3-inch screen, a 100GB HDD, 1GB memory, a Geforce Go 7400 with 128MB memory and loads of software including some from Sonic, Adobe, Roxio and Norton. As you can guess, it is slightly larger than a sublaptop but even then it is 21mm thick and just larger than an A4 sheet, making it idea to roam around. Beware of the price though, it is a Sony, so it will fetch a high price.

Abbas from T-Break has managed to capture on camera, the next Asus AM2 motherboard with a dual x16 chipset - yep, a two chipset solution, complete with heat pipe, and nine SATA ports, a microphone and features including DTS compatible sound, WiFi compatibility, 8-phase power design, AI Gear, AI Nap and AI clock skew. The AI Nap seems to be aiming straight at ViiV as it allows your computer to snooze. Hardware standby, it seems. µ
