Sony wants to step up its Samsung pact

Plots giving more cash in LCD TV deal

THE MARRIAGE between Samsung and Sony in their LCD telly joint venture is likely to get closer.

According to Reuters, Sony wants to plough some more cash into the venture to mass-produce LCD panels for large televisions.

The S-LCD venture began shipments of panels in April and is expected to reach full capacity next year. However, Sony wants to increase production further. This will be instead of buying another LCD maker to secure enough panels for its LCD TVs. Both sides admit that it is still early days in the negotiation progress. Sony has lost a fortune in its telly business over the last year.
