New ATI Intel chipset to arrive in Q2

Desktop Roadmap HDMI suspect
Thursday, 9 February 2006, 11:46
WE wrote about ATI's new Grant County 2 motherboard already. It is an Intel motherboard and it was supposed to show up in Q1 2006 but for some reason Intel decided to push it into Q2. It is rather interesting as Intel will have one more ATI based board scheduled for the same quarter.

We told you before that we suspect that the new motherboard based on ATI chipset might have HDMI support. Now, when we come to think of it, we think that we already reported about this motherboard from the Consumer Electronics Show. This chipset is up and running as we speak as the motherboard was shown publicly.

The new motherboard is codenamed Gem Valley and Intel uses the rather uncreative D103GGV code to brand it. The biggest difference between this motherboard and the upcoming Grant County 2, D102GGC23 motherboard is the memory support.

The Grant County supports DDR 400 only, Grant County 2 comes with DDR2 support while the latest one Gem Valley supports a dual channel memory controller.

Each of these boards has an ATI integrated graphic core, supports PCIe graphic and two PCI and uses socket 775. We think that the two new boards scheduled for Q2 2006 might have graphic that supports HDMI as well. ยต
