X360 to go 65 nanometres soon

ATI finally gets uprated production
Tue May 01 2007, 10:18
WHILE DAAMIT's ability to produce chips, in volume, at 65 nanometre has been in question for a while now, it seems that at least one of its products will make it into mass production before the year is out.

China's Commercial Times said that TSMC is gearing up to push out 65nm versions of the Xbox 360 GPU, codenamed Xenos, before the year is out. Xenos was designed by ATI using next-next-gen technology, and has been a relative success for Microsoft, powering the 360 to the lead, sales wise, in the console wars.

TSMC also officially announced the availability of 65nm embedded DRAM, and this would seem to be a linked story, since part of the Xenos GPU is a chunk of EDRAM, used to handle anti-aliasing functions. µ
